I picked up Bioware’s recent RPG title Dragon Age Origins a few days ago and i must say, it is a very stunning game. For a person who has never played a previous bioware game, i can say i am really impressed by their work. So, this is where the big question came to me, PC version.. hmm… cheats?
Yeah, i admit, i wanted to cheat to see what kinds of crazy sorcery i can do to the game. I began to investigate and i read about a “console” that allows you to run scripts that are essentially cheats. After several tutorials and guides online, i finally figured out how to get it to work. (No, there seems to be no one site that has this method completely written down). So without further delay, heres how to enable the developer console and essentially “cheat” in dragon age origins.
1. The first thing you will want to do is locate your Dragon Age origins directory, once you are in the folder containing all the game files. Create a shortcut for “daorigins.exe”.
2. Drag this to the desktop and then right click->properties.
3. At the end of the target box (after the quotes), type in –enabledeveloperconsole
4. You should have something like this once you are done. “D:\Games\Dragon Age Origins\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe” –enabledeveloperconsole
5. Apply settings and then launch the game using your new shortcut.
6. Once you are in the game, press the “`” key to turn on your console. (note: on the retail version of the game the console does not show what you type, so just hope you get it right)
7. Use one of the following commands and press enter. If successful you should activate the cheat.
Enjoy!
Short List of Commands: (note: there are several more commands available, just do a google search.)
runscript addxp x x=desired xp runscript zz_money x x=desired copper runscript pc_immortal runscript zz_addparty NPCname runscript killallhostiles
Hi thanks for the cheat, I can’t get it to work.
I followed the shortcut change, and there is an effect: the ` button locks my keyboard! No response from my keyboard or mouse buttons. If I run the script cheats, nothing happens. Please help!
Battlemage
It seems like your having a windows problem, have you tried it on another computer?
thanks for a REAL step-by-step on how to enable console. Every other description I read said to rename the shortcut and left out properies>target
BattleMage- When that happens… Hit enter…
Whn you hit ` you just ahv to type the code. You can’t see the console and can’t do anything until you hit enter.
I have the -enabledeveloperconsole exactly where it should be, with the space after the quotes, and double checked to make sure my .exe shortcut is the actual .exe of the game itself, and not the launcher for the game.
In the keyboard bindings, I see these 2 lines:
OpenConsole_1=(UNASSIGNED)
OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_Grave
I have spent hours trying every possible method to get this to work last night. Today, I’m trying again. I have played Oblibion GOTY edition and am very familiar with the console commands and whatnot. This just isn’t working for me. I even went so far as to download the Toolset for this game. But I can’t figure that out at all :S
Does anyone have any other possible solutions to enable this to work. I know that with the retail version of this game, which is what I have, you are not going to see the console. You just have to type “blind”. I know that the console isn’t being enabled, because when I type the letter “n” for the word: runscript, the map opens up. So I can tell the console isn’t enabled. About the only thing I haven’t done is uninstall it, and reinstall the game.
Please get back to me.
Thank you for your help
Tas
Tas,
First of all im guessing you read your cheat guide off another website because in my tutorial i do not go into editing the console enable button. The commands you see
OpenConsole_1=(UNASSIGNED)
OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_Grave
Do nothing other than change the console button, which by default is the ` key.
So its better not to play with that. Its also important that the shortcut you create is to the game and not the launcher. Also, you must keep trying to press “`” until it works, i know even for myself sometimes that it does not work the way it should. Keep trying.
If all else fail, reinstall your game and follow my tutorial.
WTF!!!!! grrr I’m running windows 7 and I am very familiar with console commands. When i right click properties there is no stupid target. wtf am I supposed to do. These tutorials dont work worth shit 4 windows 7
I’ve created the shortcut for the correct file, hit properties, and in the target box am typing the above commands, but when I hit apply it tells me it’s not valid, makes sure path and file name are correct. Here is the exact line I have copied…”C:\Program Files\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe”-enabledeveloperconsole, do you see anything I’m doing wrong
Wobbls , you must put a space between the ‘”C:\Program Files\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe”’ and the ‘-enabledeveloperconsole’
